



SCHEDULE:
In terms of timings for visiting the Gateway of India, one may choose to visit the Gateway at either the night or the morning. The reason that many visit in the morning is to take photos with both the Gateway and the Arabian Sea. At night, the Gateway takes upon another sentiment. Sporting the Triad of the Indian Flages. The Gateway is lit in the colours and is the feelings are those of great patriotism!
DESCRIPTION:
This marvellous piece of architecture is one of the reminescent structures constructed by the British in the British Colonial Period which lasted from 1619 to 1949. This piece was constructed in the near end of the period, built in 1911 and was finished in 1924, built by master Scottish architect, George Wittet. The Gateway was built on the end of the Shivaji Marg, orginally a bustling jetty for all kinds of boarts. The British soon began the construction of the Gate and once finished was the landing since of the numerous important figures who arrived in India, be it the British Viceroy’s or the New Governers of Indo-British City States. The Gateway is regarded to as the Taj Mahal of Bombay. The Gateway’s most important guests were King George V and Queen Mary who visited in 1911. The Gateway incorporates an Indo- Saracenic style. The structure is built of two materials, the basic foundation being of concrete and the outer parts are coated with Yellow Basalt. The Gateway of India is a truly inconic structure and is definitely a symbol of not only Mumbai but India!
PRICE INCLUDES:
The Gateway of India bears no entry fee however if one pleases they may choose to get them selves photographed for around 50-100 Rupees depending on the number of photos they choose to take. For those who want to "leave no corner unseen" one may opt to visit the Elephanta Island on which one will find the ancient Elephanta Caves. If one does choose to visit this site they must book tickets on the spot for around 120 Rupees per person. To get to the Island one will need to go via ferry for 2 hours!
DON'T FORGET:
Please remember to bring your own camera! As mentioned before you may choose to get yoursef photographed however with a camera one feels much more freedom! We also reccoomend some sun-block as it is quite sunny throught the day!
OUR TIPS:
If one has extra time on their hands they may as well choose to visit the historic Elephanta Caves! The Caves are nested on the Island and are accessible via ferry from the GI Jetty (Gateway of India Jetty) For all the history lovers this is the spot to gain some first hand information. Mind you, this trip is a half day expedition!
